Porting number out of Safelink to another carrier?

If you use the phone Safelink sends you, you will have to activate it with the sim that is pre-installed in the phone. Yes, if Safelink sends you a phone the sim will be paired to it. You cannot sim swap with Safelink.

WEBJan 28, 2009 · Along with the above, I wasn't able to use my previous TracFone T-Mobile BYOD SIM in the iPhone (it doesn't give a SIM error, it just throws the iPhone into an activation loop). I get the same result with an in-service T-Mobile SIM (from Teltik) also.
does Safelink use AT&T or T-Mobile for new BYOD users?

WEBJun 21, 2024 · I suspect the activation happened automatically. I wish that porting my number to SafeLink was as simple and easy. When I ported my number from TracFone to Q Link Wireless, the process was very easy and done, by me, via the TracFone and Q Link websites. Getting my number ported from Q Link to SafeLink was, by comparison, a time consuming PITA.
