Hi! There is no lift within the statue, like what the rest of the TA members replied. All in all, from the bottom of the hill to the shoulder of the statue, at least 1000 steps, if not more. My partner and I did not know that the entrance to the statue would be closed at elevenish am (exact time: please see the photo that I have taken). So it was God’s plan that we were given 2 hrs to rest. We just looked around at the fort, cannons, ate ice cream while waiting for the entrance to reopen at one plus pm (see photo) . Now, the following is the best part, because you will be the first in queue to see the statue, you may be able to see the view from both sides of the statue’s shoulders. Do note that the stairway is extremely narrow and the “exit” to each side of statue needs some bending-down. No haversacks are allowed into the statue. My partner had to take care of my haversack while I climbed to Statue of Christ’s shoulders, when it was his turn to climb, he only managed to catch the view from one side of the shoulders. There were so many tourists stuck in a narrow staircase which needed to accommodate both arriving and departing tourists. Even when I was at the shoulder, a Korean lady tapped on my arm and spoke to me in Korean, asking me to allow her to take my place in a coaxing manner.
