I would suggest train and then bus as this would be cheaper than getting a taxi as you can get a ticket for both together. I'm unsure of which buses and trains you would need to get but if you go on Google maps and put in your starting place and then the concentration camp it will tell you all of the information you need to get there via public transport. This is what we did.
Do you have to pay to visit? What are the opening times? Planning to go mid October.

Hi, we are going to be in Hamburg on the Caribbean Princess cruise ship on May 5, 2016. I cannot find any tours to take us to the camp and I would be very interested in visiting the memorial. Do you know of any tour company in Hamburg that would offer this? I am a bit reluctant to take public transportation.. Thank you.

I will be on that same cruise ship and in port same day. I too want to go to the Memorial and have not had any luck finding a tour company for this. If you have any luck, would love to hear!
How far is memorial from marriott hotel in downtown Hamburg and is it easily reachable by public transportation or reasonably priced taxi? Will be in Hamburg 2 nights, and would like to visit either on Sat. July 11 or Sunday afternoon July 12. Michael
