1st visit to Imperial Palace, never been to the one in Beijing. It looks pretty great. But please have a guide if you are not good in china history. Full review by sturie
A guide is not required but if you can get one who speaks your language it will enrich the experience so I would recommend getting one. however you can get by without one.
I plan to visit this Palace in late January when the weather will be very cold, is this likely to be practical? Is there any other historic sites in Shenyang that is recommended?

actually visiting china in winter is very hard to tolerate. i preferred i visited Shenyang in spring. it is a beautiful city but cold weather didn't let me investigate many places.
