Airbnb faces criticism for refusing to cancel a woman’s L.A. reservation during a wildfire that displaced tens of thousands of residents.

Airbnb is working with 211 LA to provide free, temporary housing for people who have been impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires, the company said.

In these cases, hosts and guests can cancel eligible stays without consequence and receive full refunds (or partial refunds for trips that have already started and require guests to evacuate before their official check-out time). Airbnb's customer service team is available for help rebooking stays.

As tens of thousands seek shelter from the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles, the short-term rental site Airbnb has made free rooms available to evacuees and major hotels are extending discounted rates to displaced residents.

Now brands are helping those displaced by the devastating wildfires in Southern California, which have already destroyed almost 2,000 buildings and forced 130,000 people to evacuate.
