The World Health Organization has urged China to share data to help understand the origins of Covid-19, five years on from the start of the pandemic in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

Mao Ning, a foreign ministry spokesperson, told reporters on Tuesday that China had shared more data and research results on Covid than any other country. “China is the only country that organised experts to share traceability progress with the WHO on many occasions,” Mr Mao said during a press briefing.

The World Health Organization marked the fifth anniversary of the emergence of COVID-19 on Tuesday by reiterating its call for China to release the data it holds and allow outside access.
