A three-person mixture of unknown DNA was found under a 21-year-old University of Idaho student’s fingernails after she and three other students were killed at an off-campus home in November 2022, a new filing reveals.

Jay Logsdon, North Idaho’s state public defender and co-counsel for the case’s defense, will be replaced for Kohberger’s capital murder trial, a Thursday court order said. Taking Logsdon’s spot is a Northern California attorney who specializes in DNA and previously testified as a paid consultant for the defense.

This new filing by the Defense in the Kohburger case tells us for the first time that there was a three person mixture of unknown DNA under fingernails of Maddie Mogen’s left hand. The defense is asking that this information be kept from the jury in Kohberger’s upcoming death penalty trial because jurors could believe the DNA is Kohburger’s and according to the defense,

One of the coeds butchered at the University of Idaho in 2022 had DNA from three different people under her fingernails, according to bombshell newly unsealed court documents. However, lawyers for murder suspect Bryan Kohberger say a test to match the traces to their client came back with inconclusive results.
