IRVING, Texas — On Tuesday, an EF1 tornado ripped through neighborhoods near Pioneer Drive and North O’Connor Road in Irving. Rene Perdomo and his family woke up to the damage Tuesday morning. “All that loud wind and banging, three seconds at most. Had it been more probably our house wouldn't be here,” Perdomo said.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth sent a team that determined the damage in Irving was caused by at least one tornado.

According to the NWS, the tornado began near Pecan Drive, south of West Pioneer Drive, where mostly trees were damaged and a vehicle hit by falling debris. The tornado then struck the Tree Country Apartments, causing EF-1 wind damage to the roof of nearly every apartment building in the complex, with maximum estimated winds of 110 mph.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area was hit with severe storms Tuesday that spawned an EF-1 tornado in Irving and, meteorologists confirmed Wednesday another EF-1 tornado and wind damage in Wise County. Residents in Irving — where the weather service confirmed a tornado touched down on Pioneer Drive between North MacArthur and North O’Connor boulevards — reported the wind shaking their homes.

Hanes Elementary, de Zavala Middle School and Cardwell Career Preparatory Center will not hold classes on Wednesday.

Three Irving ISD campuses without power are closed on Wednesday, including Hanes Elementary School, de Zavala Middle School and Cardwell Career Preparatory Center.
