CALGARY - The Calgary Flames were among the quieter teams to start NHL free agency Tuesday, but general manager Craig Conroy acquired a goalie to replace the departed Dan Vladar

The Calgary Flames have extended defenceman Joel Hanley’s contract by two years, while the club’s backup goalie Dan Vladar departed to sign with the Philadelphia Flyers. Hanley’s deal announced Tuesday by the Flames carries an average annual value of US$1.75 million.

It was their way of announcing that Hanley would be sticking around the Saddledome. ‘Nacho,’ a nickname that dates back to his stint in Dallas, had just scribbled his signature on a two-year extension that carries an annual cap-hit of US$1.75 million.
