A Jewish student at the University of Michigan was attacked early Sunday morning in what the Ann Arbor Police Department described as “a bias-motivated assault.”

The city is home to the University of Michigan. Like many colleges, the university has been the site of anti-Israel encampments and protests related to the Israeli war against Hamas thousands of miles away. In a statement, university president Santa Ono said it was working with the police department as it investigates the alleged assault.

The alleged incident is the latest report of a Jewish student being attacked on a college campus this semester, nearly a year after student activism exploded and reports of antisemitism spiked following the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war.
