In Saturday’s 11-3 blowout over the Rockies, Padres’ Dylan Cease reached an impressive milestone for the fifth straight season.

Dylan Cease allowed a first inning run to the Colorado Rockies and that has been a recipe for disaster in recent weeks for the San Diego Padres. That was not the case for the Padres at Petco Park, Saturday. Cease locked in and did not allow another run and the San Diego offense exploded in route to an 11-3 win.

If the Padres remain in the spot they're in and the 26-year old continues to churn out results as he has over his last two starts, there won't be much to argue: Vasquez will earn his spot on the Friars' postseason roster.

The Padres needed a game like that one. Through the first five games of the homestand, the Padres had scored 11 runs. As a team, they had a slash line of .168/.225/.284 over that span and batted .088 with runners in scoring position.

This was the laugher the Padres needed. A string of uninspired offensive performances had prompted their manager to declare they needed to enjoy themselves more after Friday night’s loss to the worst team in the major leagues.

The 42-year-old has carved out a successful career as an executive since his playing days ended, but won't take one of the two GM openings in MLB.
