The Chicago Cubs clinched a spot in the National League playoffs on Wednesday with an 8-4 road victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

"It's a grind of a season. You celebrate the first goal you accomplished," manager Craig Counsell said.

With 10 games remaining in their regular season, the Cubs (88-64) still have plenty more to play for.

While Cubs lefty Matthew Boyd has hit a late-season lull with a 5.97 ERA across his past five starts, this is a bounce-back spot, and the Pirates rank 28th in wOBA and 26th in ISO against southpaws for the campaign.

Romy Gonzalez and the Boston Red Sox take the field against Carlos Cortes and the Athletics on Thursday at 1:35 p.m. ET, in the second of a three-game series at Fenway Park.

Springer has six games in a row with at least one hit.
