The nonprofit also is expanding its ability to accept donations from those who don’t carry change and prefer to use chipped credit card or smartphone.

Every dollar stuffed in these kettles supports homeless programs, helping folks pay their rent or utilities among other needs.

The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, a holiday tradition since 1891, is once again ringing in the season of giving to help those in need.

The campaign is the largest annual fundraiser put on by the Salvation Army every year. This year, the goal for the organization is to raise $150,000 in Lexington-Fayette County.
