The Golden State Valkyries' historic first season in the WNBA came to an end Wednesday as they suffered a loss in Game 2 of the playoffs to the Minnesota Lynx.
For three quarters, it was potent. Coaxing the best out of the Valkyries, rattling the WNBA’s No. 1 seed. After losing by 29 points in Game 1 at Minnesota, Golden State needed a home-court advantage. It was almost enough. The Valkyries nearly had a new pinnacle for their storybook season.
Despite heartbreaking loss to the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx in Round 1, the Golden State Valkyries have built a foundation for the future.
Speaking to reporters after the Lynx defeated the Valkyries 75-74 at SAP Center in San Jose, Nakase revealed Golden State's goal, passed down from owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber: become WNBA champions within five years. " I wanted to win this year," Nakase said. "So to me, I’m disappointed myself. I can’t wait for next season."
