A powerful typhoon has made landfall near the Chinese financial hub of Shanghai. Typhoon Bebinca hit at about 7:30 local time (23:30 GMT) on Monday in the coastal area of Lingang New City in Shanghai’s east,

The city canceled all flights at its two airports and closed major attractions, amid a three-day national holiday.

Bebinca made landfall around 7:30 a.m. in the sprawling Pudong business district with maximum winds of 151 kph near its center.

Shanghai was hit by Typhoon Bebinca on September 16th. Hundreds of thousands of residents were evacuated in what state media called the strongest storm to rip through the financial hub in 75 years. Fierce winds uprooted trees and toppled billboards.

Officials in China moved some 414,000 people out of the way in Shanghai before the strongest storm in decades flooded roads and cancelled flights.
