A flight carrying hundreds of South Korean workers who were detained by US immigration authorities in Georgia last week departed late Thursday morning, according to CNN Correspondent Gustavo Valdes, who witnessed the plane take off at Hartsfield-Jackson International airport in Atlanta.

South Korea says a charter plane that is planned to carry South Korean workers who were detained in an immigration raid in Georgia will depart Thursday at noon to return home.

South Korea will send a chartered plane to Atlanta as early as Wednesday to bring back workers detained during a huge immigration raid last week on a car battery plant in the U.S. state of Georgia, a Korean Air spokesperson said on Tuesday.

A South Korean charter plane departed Incheon International Airport on Wednesday bound for the United States to bring home workers detained in last week’s immigration raid in Georgia.

The immigration raid has caused confusion, shock and a sense of betrayal among many in South Korea, a key U.S. ally.

Airport officials at Atlanta earlier said the return flight with the workers on board planned for Wednesday had been canceled.
