A preliminary magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Russia this morning, but weather officials have not yet determined if it poses a tsunami threat to Hawaii. The major temblor struck 90.3 miles east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Kamchatka, Russia, at 8:58 a.m. Hawaii time at a depth of 6.2 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
