Michigan State hasn’t faced USC since a 17-16 win in the John Hancock Bowl to close the 1990 season but they’re now part of the same conference. The Spartans last faced the Trojans at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in a 1978 loss and the all-time series is tied at 4-4.

Smith said offensive guard Luka Vincic and kick returner Alante Brown are both out “long term,” and in the case of Vincic more than likely the rest of the season. Star wide receiver Nick Marsh and starting running back Makhi Frazier will return at some point this season.
