A federal grand jury indicted Vance Boelter on six charges in the shootings that killed state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and injured state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette.

Vance Boelter plans to plead not guilty to charges he killed former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband after wounding Rep. John Hoffman and his wife, his attorney said.

As I said a couple weeks ago, this isn’t just a murder case it’s a political assassination,' U.S. Attorney Joseph Thompson said in court.

Authorities allege Vance Boelter wrote this letter addressed to FBI Director Kash Patel. Below is a transcript of the letter to the FBI that was included in a federal search warrant that was unsealed Tuesday in the case against Vance Boelter:

Vance Luther Boelter, suspect in the shootings, left behind a letter addressed to the FBI director, prosecutors said.

Vance Boelter allegedly claimed he had been “approached” by Gov. Tim Walz and ordered to kill the state’s two U.S. senators because “Tim wants to be senator.”

A search warrant announced alongside the indictment revealed more about the alleged assassin’s mindset prior to the pair of shootings.
