AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Police Department provided new details about the deadly officer-involved shooting last week. Both of the police chiefs for Austin and Bee Cave held a joint press conference to address the shooting.

Police Chief Lisa Davis scheduled a press conference for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday where she is expected to share more information about the shooting.

Police say Matthew Escalante was killed when he arrived to meet someone on Rosewood Avenue and was shot by a suspect who fled the scene.

The family of Rajan Moonesinghe, 33, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the City of Austin and the three Austin police officers who responded to Moonesinghe's home in November of 2022.

APD said officers responded to a call and found a man, later identified as 20-year-old Matthew Escalante, with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital for treatment but died Nov. 8, according to police.

AUSTIN, Texas — Police have identified a body found with obvious signs of trauma in northeast Austin. According to police, 23-year-old Shelby Wayne Cody was shot to death on Thursday, Nov. 7, near U.S. 290 and Calidad Drive.
