An American citizen was shot and killed by a passenger Thursday during his attempt to hijack a plane in Belize.

Local media have identified the man as an American citizen, adding he was fatally shot after resisting arrest during an incident that forced Belize authorities to ground flights

Three passengers were injured after a U.S. citizen allegedly hijacked a small plane at knifepoint in Belize on Thursday, police said. Akinyela Sawa Taylor, a U.S. citizen, hijacked a plane with 13 other passengers on board, officials said.
