An extravagantly designed restaurant that features gold trim, mosaic tiles, and a far-out, hand-blown glass light fixture from the Czech Republic has opened its doors in downtown Birmingham.

There's a new place to grab a salad in downtown Birmingham. Sweetgreen, a chain serving up plenty of fresh foods, recently opened a new location at 167 N. Old Woodward.

While this is by no means a complete list of all the restaurants that opened in the Magic City this year, here are 10 new places that we would visit again -- and, in some cases, already have.

The 3,090-square foot location in Birmingham at 167 N. Woodward Ave. has indoor seating for 34 guests, and an outdoor patio for 14. Fully staffed, the first Michigan Sweetgreen will have 30 employees.
