Behind a curved partition at the entrance of the exhibition “Adam Pendleton: Love, Queen” at the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, a single-channel video plays.

The canvas consists of a black square all but obscured by a white trapezoid in which rainbows, meteor trails, and jagged rows of triangles coalesce into a transcendent whole.
