Butte, once Montana's largest city and the heart of a copper mining boom that earned it the nickname 'the richest hill on earth,' has since seen its population shrink to around 36,000.

For the first time in the pageant's 75-year history Butte will host the Miss Montana Miss Montana Teen event at the Mother Lode Theater June 20th and June 21st.

The census shows no more than 400 or so Chinese in Butte, but Rose Hum Lee estimates as many as 2,500 at the peak. So it is probably fair to see the 1910 and 1920 census counts as noticeably low.
