Yes, there’s a right (and wrong) way to remove the flagstick. It’s more important than you thinkNow you’ve got all that dirt, and every time you yank the flagstick up quickly, the friction pulls up the cup a little bit. What I always tell people to do is to twist when taking the flagstick out.
