Using a fortuna, a type of rapid deployment rescue craft, the ice rescue technicians were able to reach the dog in the water and bring it safely to shore at around 3:20 p.m.

“Our Ice Rescue Technicians quickly set up for the rescue and a rescuer made their way out to the dog with a fortuna,” the fire service said in a social media post.

Neither ICE nor the Fortuna Police Department responded to requests for comment Wednesday. Some immigrant residents spoke out against the collaboration of ICE agents with local law enforcement.
