In the summer, the Zanskar River runs wild between the deep canyons of the Himalayas. In the winter, it becomes a road of ice – and the only escape.

Andrew Newey visited Zanskar, a hard-to-reach Himalayan valley region in northern India. He says that accessing it in winter is 'extremely difficult' - but notes it's a 'magical' place.
