Some of the nation's health insurers say they're taking steps to speed the process by which doctors approve medical care.

Months after the killing of a top health insurance executive unleashed Americans’ pent-up anger over denials of medical care, the industry announced Monday that it will take action to “streamline, simplify and reduce” the preapproval process.

The administration pushed insurers to sign a voluntary pledge to cut back on prior authorizations and simplify the process, Health and Human Services Department Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Monday.
