JACKSON, Miss. -- Students at the University of Mississippi are getting ready to vote on replacing a mascot the school dumped 7 years ago in an effort to distance itself from old South stereotypes.

The vote is set for Feb. 23 and will indicate whether Ole Miss students support development of a new mascot or prefer to have none on the sidelines during athletic events, as is now the case.
