ROCKFORD — The city of Rockford kicked off a new pilot program Friday that allows people to carry open containers of alcohol downtown.

ROCKFORD — The Rockford River District’s Entertainment District has been active now for three days. The pilot program allows patrons to take alcoholic beverages to select participating businesses.

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity committed $13 million toward the renovation project. The other $10 million came from Rockford Area Venues & Entertainment Authority.
