The fight against fake license plates took another step forward Wednesday in Austin, as police from across Texas gathered to show support for legislation that would get rid of paper tags altogether.
Car dealers support this change because fewer plates to store is more efficient. Regardless of whether Senate Bill 1902 passes, dealers will no longer print paper tags beginning July 1.
Texas lawmakers are looking to eliminate temporary paper plates, a move that law enforcement hopes will help reduce crime. ABC13 has been covering the issue of fraudulent paper plates for years.
