The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has officially closed its doors after President Donald Trump gradually dismantled the agency over its allegedly wasteful spending. More than 80% of all the agency's programmes were cancelled as of March, and on Tuesday the remainder were formally absorbed by the state department.

As most staff members at the U.S. Agency for International Development marked their final day with the agency, they got thanks from two presidents and a rock star.

In a rare moment of public unity, Barack Obama and George W. Bush condemned Trump for shutting down USAID. The closure ends a bipartisan legacy of providing lifesaving aid, leaving millions without vital medicine and support.
