The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has said the fuel control switches in Boeing aeroplanes are safe, following their reported involvement in a fatal Air India crash that killed 260 people in June.

The US Federal Aviation Administration and Boeing have privately issued notifications that the fuel switch locks on Boeing planes are safe, with the FAA saying they are safe, a document seen by Reuters showed.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said the order comes follows Indian and international airlines already starting to carry out their own checks. It comes after the US Federal Aviation Administration said on Monday that the fuel control switches in Boeing aeroplanes are safe.
