The San Francisco 49ers waived kicker Jake Moody on Tuesday after a putrid performance in a win against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.

Two selections after Moody, the 49ers drafted Cameron Latu, a tight end out of Alabama that in theory could have helped fill the Kittle void. Latu had trouble holding onto the ball and then suffered a torn ACL. He was released at last season’s final cutdown and is now on the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad.

A clutch 58-yard field goal against the Las Vegas Raiders in the preseason led many, including Lynch, to believe Moody got “the monkey off his back.” But Moody missed an extra point at Levi’s Stadium in the 49ers’ preseason finale against the Los Angeles Chargers, and his shot confidence clearly carried over to the Pacific Northwest.
