Fortunately for us, forecasters expect the system to curve away from the U.S. as it develops, a path that a majority of this year's six named storms have followed, mercifully avoiding direct hits to land.
The unusually quiet Atlantic is starting to become more conducive for tropical systems to develop, forecasters say.

Tropical Depression 7 forms in the Atlantic
Tropical Depression Seven formed early Wednesday morning over the tropical central Atlantic Ocean, the National Hurricane Center announced. In the center’s 5 a.m.
The National Hurricane Center said a tropical depression or tropical storm is likely to form by the middle to later part of this week.
A tropical wave west of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean is expected to become a tropical depression or storm sometime next week, National Hurricane Center forecasters said Sunday morning. The system was producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms and moving west-northwest at about 10 to 15 mph as of 7 a.m.
