Ongoing water issues in the city of Richmond is impacting the start of the Virginia General Assembly’s 2025 session, with leaders deciding to “gavel in,” handle only a few business items and then recess for several more days.

Virginia’s General Assembly will be delayed until Monday due to a water outage in Richmond, as announced late Tuesday evening. The outage stemmed from Monday’s winter storm that knocked out power at the city’s water treatment plant.

General Assembly session on pause as a result of Richmond’s water crisis, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle agree that when they return to Richmond on Jan. 13, Virginia’s aging infrastructure will be a topic of discussion.

Lawmakers will return to Richmond on Monday after the start of session was postponed due to no running water in the area.
