A person with knowledge of the player’s status tells The Associated Press that Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler will miss the rest of the season because of a torn right Achilles tendon.

Productivity has been down in Washington, but at 30 years old, Ekeler was still capable of being the dual-threat running back as in years past.

The Washington Commanders’ fears were confirmed when an MRI on Saturday revealed running back Austin Ekeler tore his right Achilles tendon during Thursday’s loss in Green Bay, a league source told The Athletic. He is expected to miss the rest of the season.
