Apple said Jeff Williams, the company's COO, will take on a new role overseeing the company's design team along with the Apple Watch and health initiatives.

Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer, is stepping down from his role later this month, as announced by the company on Tuesday. Sabih Khan, who currently serves as the senior vice president of operations, has been appointed as the new COO.

Jeff Williams has been Apple's Chief Operating Officer since 2010, but he's begun his retirement process and will be passing the reins to Sabih Khan.
