BISHOPVILLE, S.C. (WIS) - Another trial connected to the Lee County Correctional Institution riot in April 2018 is set to begin, according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC).

Since the deadly riot, 29 men have been indicted on 79 charges. In December 2023, the first trial connected to the riot took place for Michael J. Smith , 31, a former inmate at Lee Correctional.
