Satellite images from NASA show the grim state of the Los Angeles area as the wildfires continue to rage on without containment.

Since Tuesday, multiple wildfires in Southern California have burned through at least 39,000 acres — an area nearly the size of Brooklyn — and firefighters have barely made a dent.

Firefighters have stopped the deadly flames from damaging the historic Mt. Wilson Observatory and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
