Three tourists were among four people who died when a mountain cable car plunged into a ravine south of Naples.

Four people have died after a cable car plunged to the ground when a wire snapped in Naples, Italy. One person is "extremely seriously injured" according to authorities who say that firefighters and mountain rescue teams are currently working on site.

The accident happened on the cable car service between the town of Castellammare di Stabia and Monte Faito, a scenic peak offering views of the Mount Vesuvius volcano and the Bay of Naples, around 45 km (28 miles) south-east of the city. The car fell after a supporting cable snapped.
