A beach resort has been granted planning permission in Laois – the only doubly landlocked county in Ireland, meaning it does not even border another county touching the coast.

A year ago, Iveta Melgaile and Pat Bowe built a beach resort around a pond on their dairy farm in Laois — a task that seemed impossible in a “double-landlocked” county.
