A Charles Manson follower who helped kill pregnant actress Sharon Tate could be freed from prison after being recommended parole following 55 years behind bars.

One of his followers, Susan Atkins, died of brain cancer in prison in 2009. Another, Leslie Van Houten, walked free in July 2023 after spending over five decades in custody.

77-year-old Patricia Krenwinkel, a Manson Family killer, has again been recommended for parole—sparking backlash from victims’ families and awaiting Newsom’s review.

Along with co-defendants Susan Atkins and Leslie Van Houten, Krenwinkel at one point showed up to court with an X carved on her foreheard, as Manson had also done.

One of the other followers, Susan Atkins, died in prison in 2009. Another follower, Charles Watson, 79, remains in a prison in Los Angeles County.
