The order gives public school districts until Oct. 31 to come up with a policy that prohibits cellphone use for the entire school day.

By the middle of the upcoming school year, Oregon students will not be allowed to use their cellphones in school. Gov. Tina Kotek on Wednesday issued an executive order to Oregon’s 197 school districts,

The governor had indicated she would ban cell phones in schools when a bill that would have done the same thing died in the Oregon Legislature.
