Scientists recently released research showing where groundwater is most at risk of contamination by orphan wells.

Now, the USGS has revealed than around 71 to 95 million Americans may rely on drinking water from groundwater supplies containing detectable levels of these PFAS.

Using a USGS dataset of 117,672 documented orphan wells nationwide, the researchers found that 54 percent of the wells are within aquifers that supply 94 percent of groundwater used nationally.
