Vietnam veteran Richard Gerald Jordan is set to be executed in Mississippi nearly 50 years after being sentenced to death.

A death row inmate’s attorneys are asking the court to reverse a lower court’s decision that declined to decide eligibility for capital punishment.

Despite decades of attempted legal interference and motions filed to prevent it, Mississippi's longest-serving death row inmate is scheduled to be executed Wednesday at the Mississippi State Penitentiary, also known as Parchman Prison.
