In a game the Bruins needed a win after giving up a two-goal lead in the third period against the Senators, interim coach Joe Sacco elected to bench Brad Marchand in overtime. Sacco said it was a coach’s decision despite the fact Marchand’s 21 overtime goals are the most in Bruins history and third among active players.

During the Boston Bruins ' ugly shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators, head coach Joe Sacco benched Brad Marchand for all of overtime. This was after Josh Norris, the player Marchand was defending, scored with just 12 seconds left in the third period to tie the game up at 5-5.

The Senators came back and emerged victorious in a playoff-like atmosphere against the Bruins at the Canadian Tire Centre.
