WSB-TV reports that while at the station, three teens engaged in an argument with Ramos because they refused to pay their $2.50 bus fare for the ride. Things got heated as one teen threatened to spit on Ramos. Eventually, the three got into a physical altercation, per the Fulton Neighbor.

MARTA General Manager, CEO Collie Greenwood released a statement where he spoke about the “unprecedented tragedy.”

MARTA police say a third suspect has been charged with the murder in the shooting death of bus operator Leroy Ramos.

He openly admitted that “we all have more work to do” to protect both MARTA staff and users as “once routine interactions [escalate] into crimes.”
