A spokesperson for Saks Global said the situation involving the City of Dallas and Neiman Marcus is "far more complicated" than the public has been led to believe.

The news comes after Neiman Marcus' parent company Saks Global last week doubled down on plans to close the 100-plus-year-old Downtown Dallas store in March.

The decision to close the Neiman Marcus flagship store comes as its owner Saks Global announced in February it was notified from a landlord to terminate its occupancy.

Saks Global is unmoved on its intention to close the downtown Dallas Neiman Marcus store as it pushed back against local efforts to save the site.

The dust continued to be kicked up Tuesday afternoon as a public back-and-forth between Saks Global and Dallas civic and community leaders continued.

The city says this could clear the way for Neiman to stay open in downtown Dallas but a lot of big questions remain.

Nearly a century ago, Neiman and Marcus signed a 99-year ground lease on a plot of land in Downtown Dallas owned by C.C. Slaughter, who was a close friend of both families. According to the release, Slaughter never intended to make money off of the lease, which never exceeded $400 per month. It had expired in January but was extended to March 31.

Saks Global says its decision to close its landmark Neiman Marcus store in Downtown Dallas is final, despite the city's acquisition of disputed land and public "pressure" to change their strategy.

The city of Dallas cleared up the supposed ground-lease dispute the parent company tried to use as an excuse to close the store.
