SEC unveils new unit to fight crypto crime
On Thursday, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) unveiled a new unit to stop crypto crime and protect retail investors, known as the Cyber and Emerging Technologies Unit. Crypto crime has surged to an estimated $51 billion a year industry, according to the most recent figures from Chainalysis.
SEC unveils new cyber unit to complement crypto task force
The SEC expanded its crypto regulatory reforms with the announcement of its Cyber and Emerging Technologies Unit (CETU). The new crypto unit will replace the Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit, formed in 2017. CETU aims to tackle issues relating to crypto cyber crimes to help prevent bad actors from harming retail investors.
